Riley’s in Cedar Rapids Has Officially Reopened
A destructive fire caused Riley's in Cedar Rapids to close down last year, but the doors are now back open!
On September 6, 2016, a small fan above the dishwasher at Riley's on 1st Ave. overheated, causing a fire that wreaked havoc on the restaurant and the neighboring restaurant, Moose McDuffy's. The renovation project was initially supposed to only take 3-4 months, with the owners hoping to open back up in December, but things took a bit longer than expected. In an interview with KCRG, owner Richard Pankey said, "It just took some time and we really didn't want to rush it. We wanted to do a good job to bring it back to be as true as we could to what we had before the fire."
Riley's has brand new features, like the dishwashing area and kitchen, but still has all their cool memorabilia and the same delicious food. They are open 7 days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Moose McDuffy's, the other business affected by the fire, opened up last month under a new name: Grey's Pub. They're open Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
