Some Iowans (And Most Deer) Don’t Know What THIS Sign Means

A certain sign you see on the roads in Iowa appears to be causing some confusion among motorists. This was recently posted to the Iowa Department of Transportation Facebook page.

It turns out some of us here in Iowa don't know what this means, according to WGN. It's not a crosswalk sign, as some people mistakenly believe. It's a deer crossing sign!

Based on where it's usually seen, it signifies an especially active area for deer and means you should use caution. See again the message posted by the DOT on their Facebook page based on several questions they have (apparently) received:

Q. Why don't you put these signs where it is safer for the deer to cross?

 

A. Deer can't read signs. Drivers can. This sign isn't intended to tell deer where to cross, it's for drivers to be alert that deer have been in this area in the past.

Hmm. You learn something new every day. Except this. You should have already learned this, apparently. So be safe out there, and don't contribute to furthering our status as a bunch of Idiots Out Walking Around. Look out for deer this season, especially when you see the above signage.
