Stoney Point YMCA Is Up For Sale
As businesses in the area struggle with the financial impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the YMCA of Cedar Rapids is not immune to those troubles. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that due to financial issues, they have put the Stoney Point YMCA location up for sale.
Bob Carlson, president and chief executive officer of the YMCA, told the Gazette that the Stoney Point location has never had the membership numbers to sustain a positive bottom line. It was listed for sale with Skogman Realty last Friday. It will continue to offer services, including child care, for the time being. Carlson went on to say that they would love to explore sales options, including collaborations that would allow the building to continue to offer YMCA programs in the future.
Carlson also told the Gazette that he is unable to reveal the amount that the Stoney Point YMCA is selling for. He did say that several interested parties would be touring the building soon. The Stoney Point YMCA location was built in 1984 and underwent renovations in 2003. It served the northwest and southwest sides of Cedar Rapids.
The YMCA of Cedar Rapids is also having troubles paying out refunds for it's Camp Wapsie summer programs which were also called off due to the coronavirus.
There are three other YMCA locations in the area, Helen G. Nassif in downtown Cedar Rapids, Marion, and the Marion Independent Fitness Center. A new regional YMCA is being built in Marion and is hoping to be open in January.
