The Cans Film Festival Has a New Theme This Year
Each year, the Marcus Wehrenberg Cedar Rapids Cinema teams up with the Salvation Army for a special fundraising effort to help the hungry in our community at the holidays.
Ronaldo Rodriguez, Chairman, President and CEO of Marcus Theaters, said in a press release,
“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with The Salvation Army. In the fight against hunger, every can counts. Beyond receiving a free holiday film, we hope the community continues to embrace this as an opportunity to help those less fortunate when they need it the most.”
The "Cans Film Festival" helps stock the Salvation Army food pantry, and it returns on December 2. This year, there is a special new theme. When you donate 5 or more cans of food per person at the theater that day, you will be able to see a free holiday movie!
Holiday Classic series films including "It's a Wonderful Life", "Elf" and "The Polar Express" will be showing all day on December 2, and you can choose to see any of them for free with a 5-can donation.
Even better, something else is a little different from previous years. It's a "buy one, get one free" offer as all donors of at least 5 canned goods will now also receive a "buy-one-ticket, get-one-free voucher" to return to the theater between December 8-14 for a showing of either "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation", "White Christmas" or "A Christmas Story".
So, bring your donations to Marcus Cedar Rapids Cinema, 5340 Council Street in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, December 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and enjoy a free holiday film plus a free movie at a future date, while giving back to those in need.
You may even get a chance to try out one of their new "Dream Loungers"!
