Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages ... welcome to the greatest show on Earth!

Well, a movie about it anyway. The Greatest Showman, the rags-to-riches story of how P.T. Barnum invented "show business," hits theaters this Christmas. And what a cast it's got. It stars Hugh Jackman as the top-hat-wearing Phineas Taylor Barnum, with Zac Efron, Zendaya, Michelle Williams and Rebecca Ferguson in support.

"Every one of us is special, and nobody is like anyone else" Barnum says (presumably laying out the movie's central theme). "That's the point of my show."

It's a musical, with lyrics by La La Land's Oscar-winning duo Justin Paul and Benj Pasek. Jackman is a veteran of the genre, on both stage and screen, and Efron and Zendaya ought to bring plenty of charisma and vocal power to the show as well.

The trailer is set to "Here I Come," which is clearly going for the uplifting-and-inspirational feel. We'll have to wait and see if the movie as a whole manages to hit all the right notes.

Looks like we'll get plenty of acrobats, fire breathers, little people, bearded ladies and more, which is particularly nice in light of Barnum's actual circus having closed for good recently.

Here's the official synopsis from 20th Century Fox:

Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, 'The Greatest Showman' is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.

The Greatest Showman opens in theaters this December.
