Opioid addiction is a major problem in the United States, with 21.5 million Americans 12 or older having a substance use disorder in 2014, 1.9 million involving prescription pain relievers and 586,000  moving to Heroin. Often painkillers become expensive, with heroin being a cheaper alternative, many have turned to heroin in its place.

Iowa law enforcement is fighting back to allow citizens a safe place to dispose of prescription drugs today in their 12th annual Drug Take-back day. This program is designed to cut back on prescription drug overdoses. In Cedar Rapids, prescription drugs can be dropped off at the Police Department and Linn County Sheriff's office. In Waterloo POlice are setting up at Greenwood pharmacy, while in Dubuque the city's Drug Task Force is collecting at Sam's Club on Asbury Road.
