Tis the season for giving!

With November just about a week away, lots of people are beginning to think about the holiday shopping season. I'm sure there are plenty friends and family members on your gift list this year, but there are also many kids right here in our community that could use some presents, too. That's where Toys for Tots comes in.

The Salvation Army's Toys for Tots drive distributes toys to children whose parents can't afford to buy them any Christmas gifts. Donation boxes for the cause are going to start popping up here in the Corridor starting tomorrow. CBS 2 reports:

"More than 140 boxes will be placed around Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Fairfax, Robins and Anamosa."

If you would like to donate any new, unwrapped toys, all you have to do is stop by one of the drop-off locations on this year's list. Some of the stops include Hills Bank locations, Green State Credit Union locations, local Hy-Vee stores, Lindale Mall, Theisens stores, Sun Tan City locations, Hawkeye Downs, and various Cedar Rapids city buildings. You can check out a full list HERE.

If you are a member of a family in need and you'd like to apply for toy or food assistance, you can do that at the Salvation Army on the following dates:

  • October 30th through November 1st
    • 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
    • 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • November 18th through November 22nd
    • 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m
    • 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, October 30th and Wednesday, November 20th, there will be addition hours of 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
