Paramount Ditches ‘Transformers 7’ in Release Schedule Reshuffle
Paramount’s Transformers series is in the process of giving itself a major rebrand, and on Wednesday the studio announced that the untitled Transformers 7, which would have hit theaters following the upcoming Bumblebee, has been cut from their release schedule entirely following a schedule shakeup.
Transformers 7, which was originally scheduled for June 28, 2019, has been pulled, perhaps indefinitely, as Paramount reshuffles their release dates for the next couple of years. Elton John biopic Rocketman has been moved to May 17 of next year, opening opposite John Wick 3. The studio has also slated Tiffany Haddish comedy Limited Partners for June 28, 2019, and Pet Sematary remake two weeks earlier to April 5, 2019.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s roundup, Transformers 7’s axed release was “expected,” as the franchise is “gearing up for a makeover.” Bumblebee, starring Hailee Steinfeld, will introduce the Transformers to a younger audience who were perhaps too little to be indoctrinated into the Transformers series that began with Shia LaBeouf’s movie back in 2007. Plus, Michael Bay has shifted gears and is bringing his Bayhem to Netflix for Ryan Reynolds’ movie Six Underground. With the declining interest in the Transformers movie series, Paramount is going to need to regroup and perhaps see how Bumblebee does before planning any more installments.
