Two Iowa Cities Made the List of the ‘Best Cities for Singles’
Where are all my fellow singles at? No, seriously, where are you? I can't seem to find you...
I have officially lived in Iowa for four years now, but I'm still just as single now as I was in November of 2014. Maybe it's just my luck, but it seems like every interesting person I meet is already in a serious relationship. Yes, I am probably a little pickier than the average person, and I'm one of the 12 people who hate Tinder, but come on! There HAVE to be other people out there like me... right?
The website WalletHub recently compared over 180 U.S. cities to determine the best and worst cities in America for single people. They used 34 key indicators of dating-friendliness, including things like online dating opportunities, nightlife options, and the percentage of singles in each city. Those 34 indicators were then put into three categories: economics, fun & recreation, and dating opportunities.
Two cities in Iowa made the list. The highest ranking in our state was Des Moines, which came in at number 65. They ranked 22nd for economics, 108th for fun & recreation, and 86th for dating opportunities. Cedar Rapids wasn't far behind, coming in at number 92. We came in 24th for economics and 127th for both of the other categories. Cedar Rapids also ranked 4th place out of all 180 cities for the lowest rent for a one-bedroom apartment, which is good for me, I guess!
If you're looking to move to one of the best cities for singles, the top 5 are:
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Denver, Colorado
- San Francisco, California
- Portland, Oregon
- Los Angeles, California
All jokes aside, I actually enjoy being single. Sure, it would be nice to meet somebody, but it seems silly to force it or just find somebody for the sake of being less lonely. Plus, it's one less Christmas gift I have to buy this year! :)
