UNI’s Green Sets Net and Twitter on Fire in Summer League Debut
Just a few weeks ago, AJ Green signed his very first NBA deal, signing a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks were the only organization in the 30-team league to extend Green more than an Exhibit-10 or Summer League offer sheet.
If the Cedar Falls native's professional career is anything like his NBA Summer League debut, 29 teams are going to regret letting him go undrafted, let alone offering him more than a short-term deal.
Over Green's 15 minutes against the Brooklyn Nets, the two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year put up 14 points while shooting 5-10 from the field and 4-8 from three. He also grabbed two rebounds and distributed the ball well and found open teammates for buckets that didn't result in assists due to missed shots.
Not only that, Milwaukee went on a 16-2 run when he came off the bench. Green's ability to make open shots offered some much-needed flow to the Bucks' offense. Ultimately the Bucks took the victory over the Nets, 94-90.
Forward Sandro Mamukelashvili led Milwaukee in scoring with 17 points and Brooklyn's Cam Thomas led all scorers with 31.
Bucks and Panther fans across the country made sure to give UNI's own praise all over Twitter during his hot shooting, even though he didn't lead his team in scoring.
Here are a few of my personal favorites, including some video Milwaukee's account put out of AJ hitting some shots:
In case you missed it, Green made an appearance on Cornstalks and Sports Talk last Saturday where we discussed his contract, his Summer League expectations, training camp in Milwaukee, and more. You can listen to the entire episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. The clip is also on YouTube:
