One person has died of injuries suffered in an overnight mass shooting that injured nearly a dozen others in Waterloo.

The incident happened around 3:15 AM Saturday at 501 W. 4th Street, a former downtown nightclub that's located on the corner with Washington Street just below the U.S. Highway 218 overpass.

During a Saturday morning press conference, Waterloo Police Chief Joel Fitzgerald, Sr., said that "one person has succumbed to their injuries". He noted 11 others were confirmed as injured, with eight suffering from gunshot wounds. One was listed in critical condition at a hospital.

Fitzgerald said charges are pending against the owners who leased the building.

The police chief didn't release any specific information on the victims, but estimated their ages ranged from around 20 to about 45. Fitzgerald said police patrolling the neighborhood at the time of the shooting heard gunshots and rushed to scene. Officers administered first aid to the victims before paramedics arrived.

Fitzgerald said there were around 100 people in the building, which was packed "with a gathering of alleged urban motorcycle clubs." According to the police chief, one of the exits inside the building had to be destroyed in order for people to get out. Investigators believe the incident was isolated and there's no threat to the public.

Authorities are asking for the public's help in solving the crime.
