Due to weather concerns throughout the day and evening, Uptown Friday Nights is cancelled for Friday, May 24.

The Cedar Rapids Jaycees rarely cancel the event, and often remind us that they will put it on "rain or shine" at the McGrath Amphitheatre. Severe weather, rain, thunderstorms and lightning are in the forecast, so those factors and other logistics with the artist and venue have led to Jake McVey's performance being rescheduled. We will keep you updated when the yet-to-be-determined new date is announced.

It's sad that such a fun event that kicks off a holiday weekend must be cancelled, but I think it's a good call by the Jaycees. Safety first, and we'll have more fun when the weather is nicer. Our ticket winners for tonight's show will be notified of another date for their free admission.

We'll give you more details when we have them. Untitl then, check the schedule for the rest of the season here and sign up for free tickets and refreshement tokens to any Uptown Friday Nights show at our website.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
