On Veterans Day, we honor the brave men and women who have fought to give and preserve our rights, our safety, and security, and thank them for their service. On this day, I personally honor my sister, uncle, as well as two grandfathers, who faithfully served in our armed forces. Several ceremonies and events will be occurring Friday if you would like to attend. In Cedar Rapids, a one-hour program will begin at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Music from the New Horizons Band and a local school choir will be played. Veteran-themed museum exhibit and Grant Wood Memorial Window will be open for viewing from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. The Northwest Recreation Center at 1340 11th St. NW in Cedar Rapids will be open from 1-4 p.m. Admission to veterans and their families will be free. The African American Museum of Iowa is offering free admission for veterans on Friday, with a special exhibit called "Unconditional Loyalty". In Marion, The American Legion Post 298, 625 31st St., hosts a Veterans Day program beginning at 10 a.m. Veterans groups will be given the opportunity to have their photos taken, followed by a rifle volley and performance of TAPS. At 12:15 p.m., Brig. Gen. Randy Warm of Marion will speak, followed by a chicken and noodle dinner.
