Teen Charged In Near Deadly Waterloo Shooting
A dangerous interaction near Downtown Waterloo left one individual injured and another behind bars. Police have taken a teen suspect into custody after this near-deadly encounter.
On Wednesday, February 23rd the Waterloo police responded to a call near the downtown area of the city. Officials report that a man was found at the scene near 617 Dawson Street with multiple gunshot injuries. His wounds were on the left side of his body, specifically in his arm and chest area, according to a press release from the Waterloo Police Department.
The responding officers detained a possible suspect. This individual who was taken into custody was a 16-year-old male. Police officials determined at the scene that this teen was the alleged shooter. He was charged with: robbery first degree, willful injury, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and going armed with intent.
There are no additional details about the suspect that have been released by authorities at this time.
However, the victim is currently in critical yet stable condition. He was transported to Unity Point Allen Hospital after the incident and was then airlifted to the University of Iowa hospital.
The call came in at approximately 6:30 PM.
