Whitey’s Ice Cream Announces $45,000 Donation To Davenport Flood Relief Efforts

It's been over three weeks since the HESCO barriers broke in Davenport that left businesses and residents devastated.

Since then several area businesses have stepped up to help those affected. One of the first I saw was Whitey's Ice Cream. They decided to donate 100% of the proceeds of their Mississippi Mud Ice Cream to flood relief.

Starting on Wednesday, May 1st and going through Friday, May 17th Quad Citizens rushed to stores to make a purchase of cones, shakes, quart and three-gallon containers of the delicious frozen treat.

Whitey's is proud to announce that the grand total came to $45,000. They're donating $40,000 to the American Red Cross and the remaining $5,000 will be going to the Salvation Army for flood relief efforts in the Quad Cities.

In a press release, co-owner Jon Tunberg of Whitey’s Ice Cream said “It is absolutely extraordinary to see how much the community came out to support this cause. From the second this donation campaign was announced our stores were inundated with customers coming in for Mississippi Mud Ice Cream. Everyone was looking for a way to help and this was a sweet way to contribute.”

This isn't the first time that the legendary ice cream company has used this flavor to raise funds after a natural disaster. It was created after the Great Flood of 1993, and was used in September of 2017 for disaster relief after Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.

Whitey’s would like to thank all customers near and far that came into our stores, ordered online or purchased at the grocery store over the past couple weeks. Without this support, the donation would not have been possible. Also, a huge thanks to our wonderful employees who made and scooped a lot of Mississippi Mud Ice Cream over the past couple weeks.
