Sunday afternoon was one I won't soon forget, and honestly never want to. I'm sure hundreds of other dads and daughters will agree, as the annual Butterfly Kisses Event with Junior League was a smashing success.KDAT has been an active media partner of the event for years, and I was very excited as the day approached.  I've been putting in long hours lately, and my daughter has remarked many times about how much she misses me.  So the chance to spend and afternoon with just me and her was one I wasn't going to pass up. It became very apparent that many other area dads feel the same way.

We arrived around 12:30 and got all set-up with plenty of time, as the event did not start till 1pm.  However, there were already quite a few guys and their little princesses there. Many of them had already checked in and were getting in line to take photos.  My daughter insisted we head straight for the sno-cones (which was a delicious choice).  I'll admit, I was a bit nervous for the turnout thanks to Mother Nature's "gift" of snow that morning.  However, more and more kept coming in.  So really all she did was help add to the "Frozen" theme of the day.

Speaking of Frozen, there was an added surprise treat of having Elsa and Anna in attendance. I don't think they got much of a break from dancing all afternoon, as every girl couldn't wait to dance with each of them.  Later, they surprised us all by performing "Do You Build A Snowman," "First Time in Forever," and "Let It Go" to a very captive audience.

Other activities included face painting (which we ended up skipping), the "Butterfly Boutique" (taking care of the girls hair and make-up), the ring toss game, delicious food and cupcakes, the amazing silent auction (with 2 huge dollhouses, 3 American Girl Dolls, numerous gift baskets, etc.), and the "Make Your Dad a Snowman" (which I was somehow able to avoid...).  Of course there was the dancing too, although I'm not sure why, but we didn't do much dancing.  I think my 9yr old might be at the age where dad has started to embarrass her.

Regardless, it was a great afternoon.  Not just for us, but for the more than 405 people in attendance. According to Junior League, the event raised over $20,000, which helps the numerous foster teens in our area who are aging out of the system.  I can't believe how much they pack in those suitcases to help them get their independent start in life.
