Social distancing is difficult for a lot of people, but I think it's especially hard on senior citizens in nursing homes and senior living communities. For the safety of their residents, many of these establishments are currently restricting the number of visitors allowed in. That's why one Eastern Iowa senior living community is starting up a pen pal program!

According to KCRG, Highland Ridge Senior Living Community in Williamsburg is asking local children to take part in a new program where they send letters, pictures, and artwork to their residents. There are currently 180 seniors living in their community. They believe that this program can "boost resident morale," while at the same time helping kids practice their writing. It's a win-win situation! Employee Ashley Rathjen says she hopes that the pen pals can meet face-to-face when the coronavirus pandemic is finally over.
