Veterans and civilians alike will have a new place to hang out later this month! Foxhole "Charlie" Bar & Grill and the Max Betenbender Military Exhibition Hall is opening soon at 621 Center Point Road NE in Cedar Rapids.

Foxhole "Charlie" Bar & Grill and the Max Betenbender Military Exhibition Hall is being opened by the Cedar Rapids Freedom Foundation, right next door to their facilities on Center Point Road. Half of the building is a bar and restaurant, while the other half is dedicated to military memorabilia.

According to an article from Homegrown Iowan, you can expect to see authentic military vehicles, uniforms, weapons, rare photos, service medals, wartime letters, and more at the facility, which has no admission charge. One of the most important features of the exhibition is the "Hall of Honor." Local families are encouraged to donate photos of veterans in uniform that will be added to the special display.

The restaurant, or "mess hall," will offer a very basic breakfast and lunch menu, with free coffee and food discounts for veterans.

The facility's Facebook page has been giving the public a sneak peek, posting some tour videos ahead of the official opening. Here are a few of them:

Foxhole “Charlie” Bar & Grill and the Max Betenbender Military Exhibition Hall were supposed to open to the public this spring, but the opening date had to be changed because of the coronavirus. The article from Homegrown Iowan says:

"The pandemic put the opening on hold, but plans are in place to open the restaurant’s 'mess hall' beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, July 20."
