ALERT! Pet Food Recall Expanded
Midwestern Pet Foods has expanded their recall to include even more of their dog and cat food. A fatal toxin has claimed the lives of so many pets.
The recall now includes Midwestern Pet Foods' dog and cat foods made in their Oklahoma factory. The products may exceed allowable levels of Aflatoxin, a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, which can grow on corn and other grains. Midwestern uses corn to make the foods included in the recall.
The news that 70 dogs have died and around 80 pets have become seriously ill is so heartbreaking. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) says it's from eating the Sportmix dog food.
Here are all the products, from Midwestern Pet Foods, included in the recall:
- Pro Pac Adult Mini Chunk
- Pro Pac Performance Puppy
- Splash Fat Cat 32%
- Nunn Better Maintenance

If it's more helpful to search by the picture on the bag, you can find other identifying details in the FDA's recall announcement. If you have any of the products included in this recall, toss them out. Even though no human illnesses have been reported, Midwestern Pet Foods still suggests washing and sanitizing any surface to food may have touched.
Symptoms of a possible aflatoxin poisoning include sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice, or diarrhea.
