The Iowa Department of Public Safety has announced the deaths of a 36-year-old woman and her 8-year-old son earlier this month in Belle Plaine were a murder-suicide. The conclusion was reached after examining evidence at the home of Teresa Gerleman, talking to employees of the Union Pacific Railroad, and viewing Union Pacific video footage of the incident.

CBS 2 says "the video shows Gerleman waited near the tracks for a train to approach and pulled her son (Henry Fields) on the tracks with her at the last moment." The incident happened early on the morning of Friday, May 4.

Monday, April 23, 42-year-old Justin Wisner was killed in Belle Plaine after he was hit by a train. KCRG reports Wisner's death was also determined to be a suicide.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. If you know someone struggling with depression, please encourage them to seek help today. Suicide is never the answer.
