Cedar Rapids Hit-And-Run Leaves Motorcyclist With 10 Broken Bones

A Cedar Rapids man riding his 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was hit by another vehicle earlier this month, leaving him hospitalized with ten broken bones. The driver of the other vehicle, who hit the man's motorcycle from behind, then left the scene. Cedar Rapids Police are trying to find the driver, who was captured by a surveillance camera nearby.

Iowa's News Now reports the crash happened just after 4 p.m. on Easter Sunday, April 4, on Cedar Rapids' southwest side. According to KCRG, Andrew Sorenson was riding on 2nd Ave. S.W. When he turned left onto 7th Street, near Mr. B's, he was hit by what appears to be a red SUV. Surveillance video released by the Cedar Rapids Police Department shows what happened:

Sorenson was left on the roadway with nine broken ribs, a broken collarbone, and more. He was hospitalized for six days before being released last weekend. Sorenson says he has no doubt the driver who struck his motorcycle hit him on purpose. Cedar Rapids Police believe he's right.

In an emotional interview with KCRG, Sorenson says he's ridden motorcycles periodically for more than 40 years. He told them, "I'll probably never get on one again."

In a Facebook post (below), Leslie Fisher, a friend of the Sorenson family, says a $500 reward is being offered. Anyone with information can contact the Cedar Rapids Police Department at (319) 286-5491.

Here's hoping the video and the photograph of the driver that was caught by another surveillance camera (photograph below) will lead to the driver so Sorenson, his family, and Cedar Rapids Police can get some answers.
