Cedar Rapids is Now Home to a Giant Cherry [PHOTO]
The NewBo District in Cedar Rapids is home to a new piece of art that may make you hungry! I present to you, 'The Giant Cherry':
Made out of fiberglass, 'The Giant Cherry' weighs between 500 and 600 pounds, is 8-feet in diameter, and has a 5-foot stem and a 4-foot mount. According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the artist Todd Sabin estimates it's about 20-feet high. The whole thing took about a year to complete. If you're wondering where exactly it's located, just head towards the historic Cherry Building across from NewBo City Market. It's near the building’s entrance on 11th Avenue. You won't be able to miss it!
The Gazette reports that the building owners David and Lijun Chadima wanted to find a way to mark the building’s 100-year anniversary, and this is what they came up with. They are hoping the privately-funded statue becomes a landmark for people visiting the NewBo District. I think it will be the perfect place for selfies! Oh, and don't worry about visiting at night. 'The Giant Cherry' has lights on the top and the bottom.
