Pier 1 Imports in Coralville will be among the up to 450 stores that the home good retailer plans to close nationwide, amid declining sales and reported plans to file for bankruptcy.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Pier 1 had removed at least 270 store location listings across 43 states, including its store at 1401 Coral Ridge Ave. near the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville, from its website. A Coralville store employee told the Gazette that their location will be shut down at the end of March.

Other Pier 1 stores in Iowa, in Dubuque, Sioux City, and Des Moines, have also been removed from the company's website. Their location in Marion remains listed on the website as an active venue. Pier 1 did not return calls for comment.

In sharing the news earlier this month, Pier 1 said that the store closings were a necessary business decision. The closings will allow the company to move forward with a smaller store footprint. A third party liquidator is working with Pier 1 to help manage the store closings.
