Between the pandemic and recent derecho, so many in Iowa are facing home damage, loss of work and income, and food loss among other struggles. There is tons of resource information available through the Iowa Derecho Resource Center, but two groups want to make sure our pets are having their needs met.

This weekend, PetSmart, along with Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control are teaming up for a pet food drive.

A press release from the City of Cedar Rapids said "PetSmart donated three pallets of Authority Chicken and Rice Dry Adult Dog Food to Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control to distribute to residents facing hardship as a result of the storm."

This event will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13 on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last from 1-4 p.m. at the Animal Care and Control center at 7241 Washington View Parkway SW in Cedar Rapids, on the campus of Kirkwood Community College.

It's a drive-up event with Animal Care and Control volunteers in the parking lot handing out the food. Patrons must wear a mask and stay in their vehicles. Social distancing must be in place at all times to keep it a contactless event to the highest degree possible.
