Hiawatha is ready for FUN!

Guthridge Park welcomes back a weekend of music, food, and fun, and FIREWORKS that was canceled last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. A second obstacle put it on the backburner as within days of when the event might have happened, Guthridge, like so many other places around the area, was decimated with down trees that took months to clean up, leading to unsafe conditions thanks to the derecho.

Friday night August 6 kicks off the festivities

Hiawatha Fun Fest is ready to go this summer. The Facebook page for Hiawatha Fun Fest says "Save the Date" and that "activities may be limited this year, but we can't wait to see (you), to listen to some tunes and enjoy an evening of FUN, Food and Fireworks!"

Make sure to bring your shades, lawn chairs, blankets and a few bucks to buy concessions to help local organizations. Friday night concessions are provided and served by HiCrew Kiwanis Club and Kona Ice. The event is otherwise free and features activities including Living Characters balloon animals and Movies Under the Moon featuring "Monsters, Inc" at 9:15 (we won't tell if you let the kids stay up past their bedtime). Friday night also has live music from Compass Rose, from 6-9 p.m.

Saturday night August 7 is the main event

Cheap and delicious concessions are back from Aroma Pizza and Kona Ice. Dancers' Edge Entourage performs at 6 p.m. Join party band The Mixtape to dance the night away from 6:30-9:30 p.m. and stick around for the conclusion of the festivities at 9:30 with fireworks.

I, for one, am a Hiawathan who has really missed this community event and am glad to see it back. I'll be walking down the street both nights to enjoy the fun and hope to see you there!
