It's safe to say that obesity and the health issues following it have impacted the U.S. greatly in recent years. According to WalletHub, "the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that more than seven in 10 U.S. adults aged 20 and older are either overweight or obese."

WalletHub analyzed the 50 states on these three dimensions: 1) obesity & overweight prevalence, 2) health consequences, and 3) food & fitness. These dimensions were then evaluated using 19 key metrics (listed in the article) to determine where obesity most dangerously persists in America.

The Top 10 fattest states in America are as follows:

1. Mississippi
2. West Virginia
3. Tennessee
4. Arkansas
5. Louisiana
6. Kentucky
7. Alabama
8. Oklahoma
9. South Carolina
10. Indiana

But wait, we're not out of the woods just yet! Iowa may not have made the Top 10, but we may as well have. Iowa is in the Top 20, ranking #12 on the list of fattest states in America. And it gets worse...we ranked #5 for health consequences, #15 for food & fitness, and #17 for obesity & overweight prevalence. We've got some work to do, Iowa!

Let's leave 2017 in the dust, stick to our resolutions and have a happy and (more importantly) HEALTHY 2018!
