Johnny Fever Has a Low Temp…and Price!
Baby, if you've ever wondered,
Wondered whatever became of me,
I'm living on the air in Cincinnati,
Cincinnati, WKRP.Got kind of tired packing and unpacking,
Town to town and up and down the dial
Maybe you and me were never meant to be,
Just maybe think of me once in awhile.I'm at WKRP in Cincinnati..
When you hear that classic opening song, attributed here to Lyrics On Demand, you know you're in for a half-hour of hilarity ahead. It's the theme song to the hit '70s and early '80s show, "WKRP In Cincinnati".
It didn't last many years in its original run, but it's been a favorite in syndication for decades. Especially among us radio types because, well, it's set at a radio station. While it's a fictional radio station at that, the technology we use has changed but many of the scenarios that played out are quite familiar at radio stations to this day--turkeys being dropped out of helicopters to see if they could fly, notwithstanding...
Unlike many other shows, it hasn't been able to get a proper DVD/Blu-Ray release due to complicated music rights issues. That has all changed and Shout Factory did what it took to secure those rights to the vast majority of the original songs used in the show. So, for example, rather than hearing a generic song that resembles Foreigner's "Hot Blooded", we can now hear the actual tune used in the scene where newsman Les Nessman is trying on his toupee, alone at the station prior to a date with receptionist Jennifer Marlowe.
The excitement over such a collection is quickly tempered by the cost, which is routinely between $70-$100 or more. However, one site has what you're looking for, and cheap. I browsed E-Bay to see the deals they have. Less than $40!
Yes, E-Bay has a bit of a stigma attached to it. Just look carefully at the seller. Make sure they have a lot of reviews and that most, if not all of them are positive, that they are selling from within the United States and you should not have a problem.
Some of us might still have to save up to be able to afford the $40 but otherwise, the ability to own a long-awaited classic show is getting a whole lot easier!
