Saturday, July 13 was Bruce Aune's 70th birthday. he's spent 45 years in television and 52 years in broadcasting overall, and the familiar face to a couple of generations on KCRG announced his retirement this afternoon.

Bruce announced he'd like to spend more time with his wife Darcy, travel, do more volunteering, and even mission work.

Aune was on eastern Iowa televisions in 1991 when the mass shooting happened at the University of Iowa. In June of 2008, he and co-anchor Beth Malicki helped Cedar Rapids, and all of eastern Iowa, deal with the devastating floods. The duo was genuine throughout. You could see they felt the pain too. Those are just a couple of things that stand out, but Bruce Aune has been the man delivering news on TV 9 through countless big stories throughout the years.

Bruce has announced his last day on the air will be March 6, 2020. At that point, he will have been on KCRG for 34 years. Thank you, Bruce, for serving eastern Iowa so well for the last three-plus decades. You will definitely be missed.

Here's the announcement this afternoon:
