A small but famous local bakery that has been doing business in Cedar Rapids for over three decades is being sold.

Family-owned Kathy's Pies is run by Kathy McCauley and sister Terri Henecke, who have announced they are leaving the bakery business and their longstanding operation behind to pursue other interests.

Located downtown at 616 5th Ave. SE, Kathy's has actually been for sale for over a year, according to the Gazette. The building was purchased recently and will continue to be owned by Mercy Medical Center, who has been renting to McCauley and Henecke.

The business side of the bakery is for sale at $195,000, which includes the rights to the company's name, equipment and recipes.

Their hope is to find a new dedicated local owner with the intent of keeping it a small, locally-run bakery for the foreseeable future, similar to the way it has been for 33 years. McCauley and Henecke will not step aside until they find the buyer they are looking for.

Kathy's Pies has had a long, successful history of serving the Cedar Rapids community. We wish Kathy and Terri the best in their new endeavors, and our radio stations look forward to continuing the partnership we have fostered with Kathy's over the years, as the new owners take over.

Now is the time to place your holiday orders with Kathy's as well by calling (319)362-5216 or by visiting their website.
