Old Creamery Theatre Will Not Build New Kirkwood Site
Old Creamery Theatre's plans to build a site at Kirkwood will not move forward.
After her predecessor lauded the project last year as "significantly beneficial", Kirkwood President Lori Sundberg sent an email to the Old Creamery Theatre board indicating a complete about-face, and saying that donating 5 acres of prime campus land would benefit very few students.
"We are not interested in moving forward with the project", Sundberg said in the email to Peter Teahen, of the Theatre's board.
With "costs outweighing the benefits" for Kirkwood, the theatre's search for a new site is back to square one. But Teahen is very confused and disappointed, not only to learn of the project being scrapped at Kirkwood but that they now backed out of an albeit non-binding partnership agreement after three years.
The agreement, which proposed a 2021 target opening date, was also made under the previous Kirkwood President, Mick Starcevich.
