All summer long, the Rollin' Recmobile, presented by the Cedar Rapids Parks & Rec Department has been rollin' through Cedar Rapids providing kids and families with pop-up fun.

As the start of school draws nearer, they've expanded to include offering back-to-school supplies. A media release from the City of Cedar Rapids states that Parks & Recreation is partnering with a number of local organizations that regularly put on school supply drives to make it a one-stop-shop in the midst of the pandemic.

School supplies and backpacks will be distributed the week of August 10 at Cedar Rapids parks, to replace the annual "Back to School Bash" event, at least for this year. The release says "the project combines several local school-related campaigns intended to assist parents in providing supplies for either in-person or home instruction this year".

Backpacks are provided through the Return to Learn Backpack campaign sponsored by the Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation. Other partners in the campaign include Cedar Rapids Hy-Vee locations, SOKO Outfitters and CBS2/Fox 28. Macaroni Kid and the Cedar Rapids Kiwanis are also assisting with the program.

Where can you donate if you'd like to help? Take supplies or new or gently used backpacks to Hy-Vee locations, SOKO Outfitters, any Cedar Rapids golf course except Jones, and Cedar Rapids Ohnward Bank locations by August 3.

Backpacks will be disinfected before distribution. The distribution schedule the week of August 10 will follow the regular visit schedule the Rollin' Recmobile makes to city parks, which can be found here.
