The Top Snacks in Each State for ‘National Junk Food Day’
Today is a holiday that many of us have been celebrating a little too much lately with all our time at home... happy 'National Junk Food Day!'
I don't know about you, but about 50% of my diet has been junk food since this pandemic began. I don't know if it's because it's a comfort thing or because it requires little-to-no preparation, but either way, I've been snacking up a storm!
In honor of 'National Junk Food Day' today, the website Zippia used Google Trends to figure out the top snack for workers in all 50 states. They looked at the search results for 45 different snacks, excluding gum and soda. It looks like pretty much every option is available to purchase in a typical vending machine.
The pick for the state of Iowa is Pringles. It's certainly not my favorite, but it's not a bad choice, either. Here are some of the results for surrounding Midwest states:
- Wisconsin - Twix
- Minnesota - Snickers
- Missouri - Grandma's Cookies
- South Dakota - Milky Way
- Nebraska - Fritos
- Illinois - Skinny Pop
Zippia reports that Oreos were the number one favorite overall, coming in first place in five states. On the other hand, Butterfingers, Hi-Chews, M&M’s, Reese’s, and Twizzlers didn't take the number one spot in ANY state. The study also notes that sweet snacks beat out salty snacks 29 to 21.
My favorite vending machine snack varies, but if I had to pick, it would have to be Cheez-Its. When I was in college, I got a bag of Cheez-Its out of the school vending machine every single day. I prefer the original flavor, but I also love the Cheddar Jack and White Cheddar flavors! What's your go-to vending machine snack? Let us know in the comments!
