Hiawatha, Marion and other Eastern Iowa towns have opened Farmers' Market season already this Spring, but it's a downtown tradition in Cedar Rapids that's second-to-none.

A week of welcomed warmth will conclude with the season opener of Uptown Friday Nights this week, and rock and roll Hall of Fame legends Chicago on Saturday, both at the McGrath Amphitheatre. Two live shows that will have us dancing with joy, and it won't be much longer (12 days from this writing, to be exact) before another of our favorite open-air activities of the summer begins.

Saturday, May 25 is the first Downtown Cedar Rapids Farmers' Market. Mark the date to get the freshest and best locally-grown produce, foods, crafts, live music and more. I can't forget my personal favorite item to track down: breakfast burritos!

The schedule of downtown Farmers' Markets is May 25, June 1, June 15, July 6, July 20, August 3, August 17, and September 1. All Saturday scheduled markets run 7:30 a.m. to Noon.

The evening edition, Market After Dark, back for another year, takes place on Saturday night, August 24, from 6:30-11 p.m.
