If you join the Cedar Rapids Citizen Police Academy, you are not training to become a police officer, but you will learn a bit more about the ins and outs of the tough and important job of being a cop.

It's a 10-week program that will teach both field and classroom/office instruction in many areas of the police department including K-9, bomb squad, special response, criminal investigations, defensive driving and more. If you've ever thought it might be exciting to learn how to work a polygraph (lie detector) machine, you can get in on that, too.

You must be at least 18 and your criminal history will be thoroughly checked before you are allowed to participate. If you get the all-clear, classes will be held from 6-9 p.m. every Wednesday from September 18-November 20. Registration costs $30 per applicant, with a 20-person limit to take the class.
