UPDATE: KCRG now reports that 24-year-old Dallas Tullis has been arrested in connection with the Thursday fire at Hawthorne Hills. 65-year-old Steven Craig Balvin has died as result of injuries from the fire, according to the Gazette.

UPDATE: KCRG reports that the fire was intentionally set according to fire officials. Charges are likely as the investigation moves forward.

It is being reported that the Cedar Rapids Fire Department is on the scene at Hawthorne Hills Apartments, 2255 C St. SW in Cedar Rapids this morning.

Four people have been hospitalized, including one with life-threatening injuries. There is no word on the condition of the other victims or the severity of the fire. Three others were checked out on the scene but not taken to the hospital.

One firefighter is reported to have a non-life-threatening injury as well.

The fire started around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday on the second floor of the apartment complex, where fire crews had to use ladders to reach the floor and search for victims.

Crews are calling it a major fire, with water damage and smoke throughout the 16-unit building.
