People ask me what it's like this time of year to play nonstop Christmas music for hours at a time at work for two months. They should already know because they should be doing the same, listening to KDAT at their office. But I love it. It's always nice to pick up on new and recently released Christmas songs, like last year's "Wishlist" by Band of Merrymakers. This is a supergroup which, according to their Wikipedia page is made up of members of Sugar Ray and Lady Antebellum, among others, with Natasha Bedingfield contributing vocals on this catchy little ditty.

But when it comes down to it, it all comes back to the beloved classics at Christmas. With so many great festive songs, it was hard to narrow down to just five. Here are five of my favorites.

Johnny Mathis-"It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas"

Johnny Mathis' play-by-play of all the pomp and circumstance surrounding Christmas is unmatched. If this song doesn't jumpstart your holiday spirit, I don't know what will.

    The Beach Boys-"Little St. Nick"

It's hard not to enjoy the irony of a bunch of California surfer guys known for their summertime fun music to have excelled at the music of the winter holidays as well.

    Bryan Adams-"Christmas Time"

I love Bryan Adams, and to me, this is just one of those fun "sing along" songs at Christmas. I just wish he would have played it during his awesome concert in Cedar Rapids this fall.

    Nat King Cole-"The Christmas Song"

Mel Torme' wrote the song in 1945, as noted by Wikipedia, and rather confidently titled it "The Christmas Song", as in the Christmas song. While some updating of our universal Christmas traditions has taken place since its original recording, the song still encompasses the warm, joyful and festive spirit of the holiday. No one has performed it better than Nat King Cole.

    Hall & Oates-"Jingle Bell Rock"

Of course Hall and Oates are going to top my list. Have you seen the hilarious video? The song has been recorded by tons of artists, according to Wikipedia, but this '80s version is a classic.
