Cabin fever and social distancing got you down? Cure the former, as the latter will be practiced when a chance to get out of the house for a glimpse of winter's beauty is on the way later this month.

A scenic hike in Buchanan County awaits you with "Full Moon Snowshoe". It's just what it sounds like. Strap on some snowshoes and join the fun in Ham Marsh County Park near Independence for an hour-long nature walk.

CBS2 has the story of the event that takes place on Thursday, January 28th starting at 6 p.m. Participants will meet up in the parking lot, and off you go.

Ideally, the sky will be clear and you will be led by the light of the moon. "No prior snowshoe experience" is necessary to join the event from 6-7 p.m.

Ham Marsh County Park is located at 1747 Indiana Ave. in Independence, IA. Cost is $5 per person or $15 for a family (COVID mitigation requirements state that all participants should wear a mask and individual groups can contain no more than ten people). To get all the information on this perfect date night, family bonding event or workout, visit the Buchanan County Parks website here.

They promise the soundtrack of nature's majestic creatures calling out to you if all goes well.

As you can see from the photo, not just any pair of winter shoes or boots will do for this trek but don't let it intimidate you. Here's a beginner's guide for those not familiar with the actual activity of snowshoeing.
