A 33-year-old man from Iowa City has been charged with a Class D felony after assaulting a former friend with, among other things, a garden rake.

The alleged assault happened on the morning of Monday, October 24. According to the Gazette, an unidentified man was doing landscaping work in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy at 2425 Muscatine Avenue in Iowa City. Witnesses say another man approached the one working and punched him in the head, knocking him unconscious. According to police, the victim fell and the other man kicked him and hit him repeatedly with a garden rake until the rake broke. He then fled the scene. The victim had bruising to his face and a concussion from the attack.

The victim told police the man who attacked him was 33-year-old Roshun K. Gilmore, a former friend whom he'd had a disagreement with.

Gilmore was arrested and, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, now faces a Class D felony with a charge of willful injury, causing bodily injury.
