We've got some bad news and some good news for kids here in the Corridor!

In case you haven't heard the news, it was announced earlier this month that the Cedar Rapids Halloween Parade has been called off again this year. The Facebook post says it's because of "the uncertainty with the COVID mess."

The good news is, there's another series of events that will take the place of the parade this year! NewBo City Market will be hosting "Frightening Fridays" throughout the month of October.

Frightening Fridays will take place on the lawn of NewBo City Market each Friday night and will featuring a movie on the big screen beginning at sunset. The post says:

"The NewBo yard will be converted into a complete haunted attraction with roving monsters of the night. Spooky snacks and Boo beverages will be available for purchase."

The post also notes that there will be a weekly costume contest, so kids are welcome to dress up for the event. Admission is free and you will need to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Organizers are also asking that attendees support the shopkeepers inside NewBo by not bringing outside food/beverages. Frightening Fridays will be moved indoors if the weather doesn't cooperate.

The movie schedule has already been set for all five Fridays. The lineup includes:

  • Friday, October 1st
    • Scooby-Doo (2002)
  • Friday, October 8th
    • Goosebumps (2015)
  • Friday, October 15th
    • The Addams Family (2019)
  • Friday, October 22nd
    • Halloweentown (1998)
  • Friday, October 29th
    • Hocus Pocus (1993)

There will also be an addition movie night on the lawn of NewBo on Saturday, October 23rd. The 1982 horror film Poltergeist will begin at 6:30 p.m., with guests 21 and over encouraged to stop by the Olympic South Side Theater afterwards for their Day of the Dead Bash. You can get more details on that event HERE.
