Safe Place Foundation is a men's housing shelter in Cedar Rapids that has been helping people in early recovery since 1987. The non-profit organization at 529 6th Ave. SE helps homeless and near-homeless men get back on their feet and into recovery.

An estimated 88,000 people (of whom 62,000 are men) die from alcohol-related causes annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States.

It is a wicked way to die, and it seems nearly everyone you know has someone in their lives who has struggled with alcohol addiction.

Alcoholism can affect anybody but knowing that Cedar Rapids has groups like Safe Place Foundation that offer help and hope is a comforting thought. But now, they need help, too.

While Safe Pace Foundation does receive some grant funding, it's not always enough to keep the lights on. So they're hosting a fundraising Golf Outing at St. Andrews Golf Course on Friday, September 13, with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start.

For a $70 donation, you get 18 holes with cart and a meal. You can sign up to play and get more details here.
