Retro Cafe Blog: 1984

Saving perhaps the best year of the '80s for last, the Retro Cafe Blog takes us back to the year Dynasty and Dallas continued their rivalry for prime time drama domination. According to 1980sflashback,com, a new home cost $97,600 and the median household income was $22,415. A postage stamp was 20 cents.

It was 1984, and Beverly Hills Cop and Ghostbusters were the top movies, as noted again by 1980sflashback.com. The Apple Macintosh computer was introduced, and kids were jealous of their big brother or sister, who could get into a movie they couldn't see after the PG-13 movie rating classification debuted.

Everyone's favorite game was Trivial Pursuit and lotteries gained momentum.

Finally, among the songs topping the charts in 1984 were  The Romantics with "Talking in Your Sleep", "Ghostbusters" from Ray Parker, Jr. and "Wake me Up Before You Go Go" by Wham.
